Golf Tips Putting is so helpful in bringing down your golf score.
In every round of golf you will play more shots with your putter than any other club.
Depending on your average score you will use the putter between 28 and 40 times in a given round, whereas the second most used club, usually the driver, you may use about 14 times.
Now, driving the ball long and straight is a key determinant of playing good golf, but too often players will focus their attention exclusively on the driver to the exclusion of their putting.
Think how much lower your scores would be if you never 3 putted. Or if you were able to make every putt inside 5 feet. Now can you see the importance of being a good putter?

Good golf putting, like success in all aspects of golf, comes from sound fundamentals…and then practice sessions designed to test those fundamentals under pressure similar to that found on the course.
Thus your practice would ideally be split into two equal parts: Technique Practice and Performance Practice.
Technique Practice
During technique practice you want to set up a practice station that will allow you to constantly check your putting fundamentals:
- set up
- body alignment
- putter face alignment
- stroke path
Train Track Drill
A perfect drill for this is the train track drill. Find a level section on the putting green and place two golf clubs on the ground parallel to each other, three feet from a hole.One club should point at the right edge of the hole, the other at the left edge.
Complete your normal pre-shot routine on each putt and stroke balls into the hole.
Your goal is to ensure your routine is consistent, that the putter face is aligned correctly at address and the path of your putting stroke consistently tracks along the same path back and through.
Performance Practice
During performance practice the focus moves to situations that simulate what you will encounter on the golf course. A couple of drills to help you achieve this are:
Ladder drill
Find a straight putt and set up 6 balls with the first being at 2 feet from the hole. And then in one-foot increments away from the hole for each consecutive ball.The objective is to make the first putt, and only if successful can you move to the second ball.
If the second ball is made, then move to the third ball and so on. However, if you miss a ball you must return to the beginning of the line and start again.
Your objective is to make all 6 balls in sequence.
Leapfrog Drill for Golf Tips Putting
Place a tee in the green as your starting point.Place a second tee in the green ten feet from the first tee.
Point three is the edge of the green and should be approximately 40 feet from tee one.
Starting from tee one, your objective is to putt the first ball past tee 2.
Your second ball must go past ball 1, ball 3 past ball 2, and so on.
Your goal is to get 10 balls in sequence between tee 2 and the edge of the green.
You may increase or decrease the number of balls or alter the distance between tee 2 and the edge of the green to make this drill easier or more difficult.
Remember it should be a challenge but not impossible.
